Let's hope posting this will get me moving!

Four Months left - Time to hit it hard!
Hey Fabbies,
I need some advice on what to do next. I have four months until my 30th birthday and I really want to go out in a blaze of glory. I've been soooo lazy this past month. Normally I post my goals within 24 hours of our meetings but it has taken until now for me to even think about it.
What would be a truely fabulous fitness goal to work towards? I bought an elliptical machine so I thought about training for a 5k (probably a wimpy goal for somebody like Lesha, but I've tried to do a 5k on several occastions and never succeeded). The only problem is that I doubt that there are very many (if any) Fun Runs in February.
Do you guys have any other ideas? Should I just work on doing x amount of exercise x times a week? I guess that I could train for a 5k then just go out and do it myself. That doesn't sound very fun though.
Also, I read a magazine article about www.stickk.com. I'm not sure if I necessarily need to register with them since I already have you guys as a support team, BUT I do love their fabulous idea of "sponsoring" yourself. You can put a certain amount of money on the line and if you succeed at your goal then it can go towards something really positive (like, say, sponsoring a girl's education in Ethiopia) or something really horrible (like the NRA). I think that if I put some money down and knew that it would be sent to the NRA if I didn't succeed then I'd be SUPER motivated. Plus I love the idea of working towards something that will not only benefit myself but my community as well. Thoughts?
Abbie's October Goals
- One group meditation
- Cook one new recipe every week
- Take vitamins
- Buy elliptical machine
- visit dermatologist
- exericese 5 hours a week
- research knitting classes
- Find exercise log for Iphone
- Research Stickk.com

Abbie Recommends Dream Dinners
I checked out Dream Dinners last month. Two Thumbs Up! Much better food than My Girlfriend's Kitchen. Definitely suitable for a more sophisticated palet. (And we all know what a connoisseur I am. :)) Worth the extra couple bucks.
Abbie Recommends Meetup.Com
In my quest to find a meditation group I came across the website Meetup.com. I'm excited to meditate with a Salt Lake City group every Monday at 7:30 p.m. I might also join a wine tasting group. I highly recommend checking out the site. They have something for everybody.

Sunscreen
As I told some of you at our meeting, out of a study with 0ver 1,000 sunscreens, only about 14% actually worked against UVA and UVB rays. How scary is that? So my dermatologist sent me to the skin cancer website for a list of approved products ranging from body lotion to face lotion. I found this site to also contain a lot of other interesting facts as well. Check it out! And, if you want to look at the list of products, look for a list of links on their main page to the right hand side, labeled "products".

The pulse test for allergies
Here is the allergy test I was talking about at the meeting. When you eat foods you are allergic to, your body has to work harder to digest them, especially the liver and kidney. This puts stress on the organs which weakens the immune system overall because they are under "toxic stress". So if you think you are allergic to something and want to reduce or eliminate it in your diet, here is a simple way to find out:
1. Get into a relaxed state and take your pulse on your wrist. Write the number down then eat the food you think you are allergic to.
2. Be sure to stay relaxed so your pulse won't increase. Wait 30 minutes (good time to read a book).
3. Check you pulse again; if it increases by more then 8 beats per minute, you are likely to be allergic to this food. That also means you should not test any other foods that day.
4. The pulse test works best on an empty stomach. Things like caffeine and other stimulants should be avoided as well before testing.

The Fabs Ride the Rail
Hey Fabulousies,
We're biking the Rail Trail on Sunday, June 29th. If you have a bike then you can meet at Barb's house at 8 a.m. to use her fancy new bike rack. If you don't have a bike then you can rent one for $28 from White Pine Touring. http://www.whitepinetouring.com/rentals/summer-equipment.jsp
Everybody will meet at White Pine by 9 a.m. We'll take off from there. Bring plenty of water and some food. The trail is 30 miles one way, but I think that we should just play it by ear and turn around when we start to feel tuckered.
Looking forward to it!

Knead A Massage
I went to Knead A Massage for a 30 minute massage today. I received a gift certificate when I bought a membership to Red Butte Gardens. Thought I would let you guys know that they have a really nice set up at Knead. Each room is painted pail green and has soft white lights on a dimmer. The guy who worked on me was very nice and respectful (love it when they pull the sheet down tight around you). And, best of all, I laid on a heated massage table. I'd definitely consider going there in the future. They have locations in Foothill, Sugarhouse, and Park City.
30 minute massage - $35
60 minute massage - $60

America's Healthiest Supermarket Foods
It took months of scouring grocery store aisles and enlisting the help of our favorite nutritionists and chefs to come up with our extended list of the best supermarket foods across the land.
We chose foods packed with plenty of the things you want — fiber, protein, healthy fats — without the unnecessary calories, fat, sodium, sugar and salt that pollute so much of our packaged-food supply. The nutritionists ensured that the foods listed below will do your body good, while the chefs made sure we weren’t sacrificing taste. From breakfast to dessert and everything in between, we’ve picked out a variety of foods that’ll bring you a ton of flavor, keep you lean, and help you look, feel, and live better than ever. Here are eight of our favorites that’ll satisfy your hunger and taste buds:
1.BEST INSTANT OATMEAL
Quaker Weight Control Banana Bread Oatmeal
(per packet) 160 calories 3 g fat 7 g protein 29 carbs 6 g fiber
1 g sugars
*This instant oatmeal is high in soluble fiber — the stuff that provides long-lasting energy — and gives you a morning shot of belly-filling, muscle-making protein as well. The banana-bread flavor hits the spot without an overwhelming sugar and calorie count. Zap a bowl at home or at work, and you'll get your day off to a fast and body-friendly start. (Remember: Studies show that those who skip breakfast are 450 percent more likely to be overweight or obese!) Less temptation around the doughnut tray at work, too.
2.BEST GRAIN
Bob’s Red Mill Organic Quinoa
(per 1 cup prepared) 160 calories 2.5 g fat 6 g protein 30 g carbs 3 g fiber
0 g sugars
*We don't expect you to eat something you can't pronounce, so here goes: It's KEEN-WAH, and you should think of it as a high-protein, high-fiber replacement for brown rice. Also, whole-grain quinoa packs vital amino acids, which help your body grow and repair itself.
3.BEST SNACKING CHEESE
Laughing Cow Mini Babybel Original
(per piece) 70 calories 6 g fat 5 g protein 0 g carbs0 g sugars
*You may think of cheese as an indulgence, but it can be a great snack. The fat in cheese is proven to suppress your appetite, making it ideal to take the edge off hunger in between meals. Laughing Cow’s little packages will keep you from overdoing it — who has time to unwrap more than three of the little bundles?
4.BEST BOTTLED TEA
Honest Tea Green Dragon (per 16-oz bottle) 60 calories 16 g carbs 10 g sugars
*We sent a swath of green teas off to an independent lab to test for antioxidant levels, and Honest came back the winner. Then we did our favorite part of food testing: We guzzled the contenders. Lucky for you, Honest Tea aced our taste test.
5.BEST FLAVORED NUTS
Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds Dark Chocolate
(per ounce) 150 calories 12 g fat 6 g protein 6 g carbs 3 g fiber 1 g sugars
*Almonds are packed full of heart-healthy fats and antioxidants, which makes them perfect for staving off mid-afternoon hunger cravings. We especially love these almonds because they remind us of a Hershey almond bar, minus all the sugar. This is our new favorite way of doing crunches in the afternoon.
6.BEST ENERGY BAR
Lärabar Apple Pie (per bar) 180 calories 10 g fat 4 g protein 23 g carbs 4 g fiber 17 g sugars
*A great new twist on the mom-apple pie connection. Most energy and protein bars are polluted with sugar, making them more akin to a Snickers than to something you might actually want to snack on. But Lärabar ditches the synthetic sugars and fillers in favor of six simple ingredients: dates, walnuts, apples, almonds, raisins, and cinnamon. Wash it down with high-protein, high calcium Organic Valley Low Fat milk (another winner): Mom would definitely approve.
7.BEST FROZEN TREAT
Edy’s/Dreyer’s Slow Churned Vanilla with Crunch Bar
(per bar) 150 calories 19 g carbs 8 g fat 10 g sugars
*We know what you’re thinking: “Ice cream bars are flat-belly foods?” Remember: People who don’t treat themselves to an occasional indulgence end up with an empty carton of ice cream on their laps at midnight. Part of getting lean and staying lean is picking relatively innocent indulgences that will satisfy your cravings without sabotaging your diet. Bonus: Bars also keep you from the “just one more bite” risk that the tub of ice cream will turn you into a tub, as well.
8.BEST PACKAGED COLD CUTS
Hormel Natural Choice Presliced Deli Meats
(per 3 turkey slices) 50 calories 10 g protein 1 g carbs 1 g fat 0 g sugars
*Their turkey cold cuts are another tasty way to deliver protein. Hormel deli meats are 100-percent natural, as well as nitrate- and nitrite-free. Wrap a slice around a slice of Sargento Deli Style Aged Swiss for an all-star snack.

This is a nice link. It gives some ideas about what to look for at Farmers' Markets and what to do with what you find there. Or in Abbie's case, what to do with the flood of produce that will soon be filling her garden!
Another quinoa recipe

I have a couple of questions for y'all.
1. What products do you girls use to moisturize your face to prevent aging and wrinkles?
2. Why is it that V8 seems to be mostly tomato juice and claims it's a full serving of vegetables, but tomatoes are considered a fruit?...how does that work?

Butt Pills
So I told Tara and Barb that I'd write a blog about wheatgrass suppositories but I can't find a lot of information about them online. Apparently Barb has a friend down in Moab who has taken to stuffing wheatgrass up her ass. When I originally heard this I imagine dozens of loose leaves hanging out of her sphincter. It turns out that she uses "suppositories" i.e. butt pills instead. If anybody seriously wants to consider doing this then I'll find more information. In the mean time I'm going to take a wild guess and assume that nobody is going to raise their hand and say "yes, sign me up for some butt pills". -A
The Zen Center
Does anybody want to attend a zen class with me on Monday? The class begins at 5:30 and ends at 7. It is located at 1268 East South Temple. Here is a brief blurb on the class:
We generally have classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings for those who wish to deepen their understanding of Zen teachings and principles. Again, we begin with a period of meditation followed by a talk and question and answer session. Many of these classes offer a wonderful opportunity for those who want to experience Genpo Roshi’s unique and life-transforming teaching, through the Big Mind process. Check our calendar for dates, times, topics and teachers for our weeknight classes. You don’t have to be an advanced student to join in and learn a lot from these classes.
Weeknight Classes Suggested Donation for Non-members $15/class

Pilates
I am THRILLED that you all are excited about Kegel exercises, because it means that you should be pounding down the door to get into my pilates classes. The secret to pilates is learning to tune in to that pelvic floor and your deep abdominal muscles that stabilize your body.
I started class yesterday and need to do some practice teaching to get a better idea of what I don't understand. I want to be able to ask all my questions right now while I have the resources of two great teachers.
Who's signing up for next week?

Kegels!
Tara, Barb, and Abbie have decided to incorporate kegel exercises into their quest to be fabulous. We highly recommend that the rest of you join us. When Barb read that kegels help with child birth she got excited about the prospect of shooting the baby across the room. Tara testified for the effectiveness of kegels by reminding us all of the "Banana Show" in Amsterdam. (If you haven't heard this story already then Jake would be more than happy to repeat it for you.) -A
How to do Kegels
Place your finger in your vagina and squeeze around it, when you feel pressure around your finger you have located the correct muscle.
Kegel exercises serve to tone and strengthen the pubococcygeus or "PC" muscles which form the floor of the pelvis. The health of these muscles plays a vitally important role in sexual arousal and climax, as well as in other aspects of bodily functions. Now that you have located your PC muscles, you can begin kegel exercises while your bladder is completely empty.
First, try squeezing your PC muscles whils doing your basic kegel exercises as hard as you can for a count of three seconds. Then let them relax. To begin with kegel exercises, see how many times you can do this before the muscles feel tired.
Now figure out a suitable routine just as you would if you were trying to tone and strengthen a different muscle group by going to the gym every other day. For example, suppose you start by being able to do only five strong squeezes: try doing three sets of five once or twice a day for a week, and then try increasing your kegel exercises to three sets of eight strong squeezes.
If you work up to three sets of thirty or more strong squeezes, you are probably healthy enough for most purposes, and need only to maintain this level of fitness by doing these three sets of Kegel four times a week (instead of kegel exercises once or twice a day).
We also recommend that you experiment by varying the type and timing of the PC squeezing you do as you train these muscles: slow clenches, many quick flutters, and so on. This will make you more familiar with these muscles – notice also when your abdominal muscles or your anal muscles feel like they also want to join in the Kegel exercises are being done improperly.
Remember, you should try to separate from anal squeezing. If you are in doubt, go back and find your PC muscle while attempting to urinate.

Another Great Meeting
We had another great meeting. Keith said that he couldn't believe that we were only three people because our laughter filled the entire house. Good Times. Good Times. Before we get into kegal exercises and butt pills I'm going to post a funny clip for Linsey, Lesha, and Jaime. Barb showed us this last night.
...Nevermind. I can't figure out how to embed the clip. I'll have to post it as a seperate entry.
Don't forget to post your goals. Next meeting is May 28th at 5:30. -A

MGFK out of business :(
Sad news girls. The My Girlfriend's Kitchen in Sugarhouse closed down last week. Keith showed up for his session and David as his partner were boxing things up. I feel really bad for the guys. The closing was so sudden and I know that they lost a ton of money in the endeavor. I think that I'll take a break from pre-made meals for a while then eventually try to find a replacement company. -A

How do I stay Fab while on vacation?
Hey Chicas,
In 22 hours I'm going to be on the plane to Mexico. Does anybody have any last minute advice on how to stay fit and healthy while on vacation? I've already decided that I'm going to take a hiatus from counting my fruit and veggie portions. My Iphone doesn't work in Playa so I won't be carrying around my electronic notepad. The good news is that I'm packing my yoga and pilates videos and I'm going to try to walk as much as possible. The bad news is that I tend to drink (a lot ) of beer and margaritas and eat (a lot) of cheese enchiladas. Should I just give myself a 12 day pass or actually try to maintain a healthy diet? -A

Pre-made Lunches (minus the question mark)
So I'm sorta loving this pre-made lunch idea. I haven't heard from T yet, but L and B sound interested. (Wish you could be here J!) What do you guys think about getting together Saturday night? I'm slightly concerned about the fact that I only have one oven, but I'm sure that we can make it work. It isn't like everything has to be done at the same time. In fact, maybe it would make sense to make one dish at a time so that we're not competing for bowls and utensils and such. If you want to join me then come prepared with one recipe, all your ingredients, and 8 pieces of tupperware. (If you're feeling stingy and don't want to share with your man then you'll have twice as many lunches for yourself!)
I'm making Thai Coconut Milk Soup with Chicken. I've never made it before but the recipe looked good. Each serving has a full cup of veggies in it.
For more recipes type "freezer meals" or "make-ahead meals" into a search engine.

Pre-made Lunches?
Hey Girls. I had a moment of inspiration at lunch. I've decided that I'm really sick of plain cold salads for lunch. I think that it would be cool to make a bunch of healthy lunches in advance then freeze them. It would be kind of like My Girlfriend's Kitchen but the lunches would be individual portions and microwave heatable. I don't have any actual recipes in mind but I bet that we could find some stuff online. My ideal lunch would be a full meal deal loaded with veggies and proteins like chicken breast and salmon.
Does anybody want to get together this weekend and cook? If three or four of us got together then we could make 3 or 4 different meals and divide them up among us. If we're feeling extra generous then we could make extra oortions for our fellas.
Let me know if you want to come over. Even if you don't want to join me in this endeavor please let me know if you know of any good recipes. I think that even casseroles that are good reheated would work.

Interval Training With Stin
So my guru, Stin, has come out with some guided podcasts for interval training. Each workout is only 20 minutes long. However, you feel like you've done an awesome workout because Stin guides you through a very intense process. The idea is to start out by exercising at a level 5 then eventually working up to a level 10. I always feel like I might die when I get to level 10, but it helps that Stin is there cheering me on. You can apply the podcast to any type of exercise. Last week I did it while power walking. On Sunday I did it in my living room by dancing and making up aerobic moves. It doesn't really matter what you do as long as you get your heart rate up.
You can get the interval training podcasts by using my account to sign into Itunes. However, if you are a fan of the podcasts and want to support a female small business owner (and isn't that the true spirit of FAB B4 30?) , then I strongly encourage you to sign up for your own membership. I paid a one time fee of $7. -A

Sweet tooth
Here are some ways to beat sugar cravings, according to tips from Cosmopolitan and Prevention magazines.
Try to crack the sugar craving naturally by totally banning sugar from your diet for several days. Be forewarned this isn't easy. You might even experience a kind of withdrawal, including headaches.
Is a sugar craving a sign of imbalance? Traditional Chinese medicine says so and recommends rectifying it with bitter foods, such as arugula, radicchio, endive or chicory. Eat one to two servings a day.
Eat small meals every three to four hours throughout the day. Menu ideas include a whole wheat sandwich with some kind of protein filling, fruit, vegetables or nuts.
Fruit can help you overcome a sugar craving, but it has to be the right kind. Choose berries, apples and pears and avoid pineapple and watermelon.
Do not consume any refined foods, including white bread, cake and biscuits.
Drink about two liters of water throughout the day. Did you know that coffee, tea and energy drinks can actually trigger sugar cravings?
An essential mineral you need to stabilize your blood sugar level is a trace element called chromium that is found in baked beans, peanut butter, shell fish and whole grains.
If you think the craving is caused by boredom, try brushing your teeth. The clean taste in your mouth will make you less likely to eat.
When you eat, turn on the lights and turn off the TV. You'll eat less.
Hey Tara- are you willing to go without sugar for a week with me? I don't think I can do it alone. Have you found other tips on beating sugar cravings?
-L
Try to crack the sugar craving naturally by totally banning sugar from your diet for several days. Be forewarned this isn't easy. You might even experience a kind of withdrawal, including headaches.
Is a sugar craving a sign of imbalance? Traditional Chinese medicine says so and recommends rectifying it with bitter foods, such as arugula, radicchio, endive or chicory. Eat one to two servings a day.
Eat small meals every three to four hours throughout the day. Menu ideas include a whole wheat sandwich with some kind of protein filling, fruit, vegetables or nuts.

Kashi Waffles
Just FYI- Target carries Kashi waffles and pretty much everything else that Kashi makes. I take their frozen food to work for lunches.
Oh, and my other Target find today: low sodium v-8! It's only 3% of your RDA of sodium, instead of 13% like the original. I'll let you all know how it goes.
In other news, I worked out over 7 hours last week. I gave my body a day off today, and I am already excited for working out tomorrow.

Sleep, Oh Sweet Lovely Sleep
According to Julia Ross, M.A. , this is what a good night's sleep looks like:
For most people the best sleep takes 8 hours, runs from dark to dawn - ideally from 10 pm, or earlier to 6 am or so - and leaves you feeling great. You should actually start feeling sleepy within about three hours after the sun sets are you sleep-promoting brain chemicals are triggered by the reduced light. When you actually hit the pillow, it should take only a few minutes for you to get to sleep. Once you get to sleep, you should say asleep through the night (without bathroom trips!). Ideally, you'll go through a series of vital sleep sequences that take at least eight hours to complete. At lease six of those hours should be uninteruppted.
Now I know this kind of sleep is possible because I see Keith experience it every night but I don't think that I have EVER slept for six hours straight. And what is this nonsense about falling asleep minutes after hitting the pillow? Have any of you actually had this happen to you? If so I'm so freaking jealous!
I know that I would reap huge rewards if I would just go to bed earlier. (My natural body clock wants to be asleep by 10:30. ) It is so hard when you are married to a night owl though.

Oil Cont...
Glad you liked the olive oil, Tara. By the way, I told me new hair guy that I put olive oil on my hair and he said that is fine but Weleda Rosemary Hair Oil works even better. Apparently you can buy it at Whole Foods or Wild Oats. Look for the little green bottle. He also said that the Whole Foods in Fort Union doesn't have this particular brand so you have to go to the one in SugarHouse or on 4th South. -A

My thoughts in response to Abbie's Confusion
This is my response to Abbie's comment to the Ezekial bread post expressing confusion about the mood cure book:
I think EVERYTHING is bad for someone or other. I really think that we could drive ourselves crazy with worrying about this thing or that thing and trying to control every aspect of our food and our environment. But I think no matter who you are, eating whole grains, eating lots of fruits and veggies, drinking a lot of water, exercising, and not worrying will make 99% of us healthier and happier than we are now. Everything else I see as a hell of a lot of effort for very little output. I think you could end up putting in 15% of your time to get a 1% increase in your health. A long bath, a massage, and hanging out with friends will give you a lot more than worrying about soy...or rye...or heavy metals...or wheat...etc. The trick is to sift through the advice and find what is relevant and works for you. Dump the rest. That's my philosophy anyway.

Ezekiel Bread
Ezekiel Bread- Brand "Food For Life" (Can find in most health food stores)
Not only is it flourless it tastes good!!!! TIP- Keep it in the fridge because it can mold fast since there are NO PRESERVATIVES!!
Different from most breads today, Food For Life sprouted grain breads are made from freshly sprouted certified organically grown live grains and contain absolutely no flour.
The secret is in the sprouts! We believe in sprouting the grains we use in our breads because sprouting is the only way to release all of the vital nutrients stored in whole grains.* To unlock this dormant food energy, maximize nutrition and flavor, we add just the right amount of water to healthy whole organically grown grains which are already bursting with nutrients. Beneficial enzymes are activated which cause the grains to sprout and become a living food.Food For Life breads, made from sprouted grains, are richer in protein and vitamins than bread baked from dry grains ground into flour. Our exclusive sprouting process not only significantly increases valuable nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, B-vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium but also causes a natural change that makes the protein and carbohydrates easier for the body to use. In fact, sprouts are lower in carbohydrates and calories than the grains from which they were sprouted. And even better still, our exclusive baking process preserves these valuable nutrients and retains the important natural fiber and bran.
Our breads contain no refined sugar, no preservatives, no artificial colors or flavors, no shortening and no cholesterol, so they’re better for you.

Sugar Addiction
Hey Lins, I'm reading The Mood Cure right now. (Fascinating book, by the way.) It has a few paragraphs on sugar addiction then the author says:
My first book, The Diet Cure, deals extensively with sugar addiction, its devastating effects on both mood and health, and how it can be overcome.
You might want to check it out.

Linsey's Goals- March 26- April 30
Two of my goals I am still struggling to meet consistently so they are being carried over to this month:
1- Do aerobic activity 4 times a week and pilates 2 times a week
2- Eat at home at least 4 nights a week
The new challenges:
1-Get dental insurance
2- Make a dentist appointment
3- Switch to a cheaper car insurance
4- Eat 12-15 servings of vegtables a week (v8 might help)
5- Research how to stop craving sugar every day
6-Stand up for myself in all the little ways I normally just let slide.
7- Start researching anatomy for my pilates class

Abbie's Goals, March 26 - April 30
- Visit dentist
- 17 servings of vegetable/week
- Get haircut from Eddie
- Go off Pill
- Get Plan B
- Research IUD
- Eat more grains including ezekial bread and quiona
- Consider detox
- Read at least half of The Mood Cure book http://www.moodcure.com/
- Stop compartmentalizing my body. Every time I start to focus on my stomach quickly focus on three things that I like about my body.
Vegetable Servings
The USDA Food Guide Pyramid recommends 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables every day.
And getting 5 to 9 servings is easier than you may think.
A serving size is:
One medium-size fruit
1/2 cup raw, cooked, frozen or canned fruits (in 100% juice) or vegetables
3/4 cup (6 oz.) 100% fruit or vegetable juice
1/2 cup cooked, canned or frozen legumes (beans and peas)
1 cup raw, leafy vegetables
1/4 cup dried fruit
Wondering how many servings you really need each day?
Children (2-6 yrs.), women, and others who typically need about 1,600 calories to reach or maintain a healthy weight:5 servings – 2 fruits, 3 vegetables
Older children, teen girls, active women, and most men who typically need about 2,200 calories to reach or maintain a healthy weight:7 servings – 3 fruits, 4 vegetables
Teen boys and active men, who typically need about 2,800 calories to reach or maintain a healthy weight:9 servings – 4 fruits, 5 vegetables

Beauty Tips
I propose that we post our best health and beauty tips for the group. I'll start. -Abs
1) Once a week or so I massage olive oil into my hair. I leave it on for an hour or so then shower and condition like usual. It is the only thing that gets my hair through the brutal Utah Winters.
2) Speaking of moisturizing, I highly recommend rubbing Carmex brand chapstick into your nails and cuticles.
3) Always wear your belt one notch looser than it needs to be. It will take 5 pounds off of your middle.
4) My favorite brand of sunscreen is Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 45.
5) If you haven't already, check out SPANX. They are the modern woman's girdle.

Something I love
Here is something I love - Kashi Golean blueberry waffles. They actually taste like homemade multigrain, blueberry waffles. They take about a minute to cook in your toaster oven and come out crispy and hot. They have protein, 25% of your daily fiber, and if you throw some fresh or frozen berries on top, you have a fantastic, luxurious breakfast. And enough fuel for tennis class!

Electrodermal Screening
Jaime does EDS and now Abbie wants a shot at it too. For more information, go to http://www.wholehealthne.com/about/electro-dermal-screening/
If you know of a practitioner who has access to a machine then let Abbie know.

Abbie Recommends Biometric Screening
Hey Chicas,
I went in for my first blood test in God knows how long. The nurse said that I'm in "phenomenal health". My HDL (or good cholesterol) score was off the charts. Now I wish that I'd done the blood test before I started FAB B4 30. It would have been fun to see the improvement.
Barb, you can sign up for a free screening through the WellU program. It only takes 15 minutes and you get your results immediately.
The others will be able to receive this test from their regular doctor.

Questions to cover during next meeting
1) Do Jaime and Tara want to post a link to their blogs and webpages?
2) How do people feel about having their goals posted online?
3) What do you think about the site? How should we display our goals?

University Fitness Testing
All testing is done by appointment only.
Please call 585-7325 to schedule your test.
Aerobic Fitness Testing (Maximal and Submaximal)
Your cardiovascular fitness can be measured by performing a maximal or submaximal exercise test on a bicycle or treadmill. You can find out your Max VO2, Anaerobic Threshold, Max Heart Rate, and Training Heart Rate. Aerobic Tests Available
Anaerobic Power Testing
Your anaerobic power can be measured by performing the Wingate test on a bike. Anaerobic Tests Available
Body Composition Analysis
The two major components of your body (fat free/lean mass and fat mass) can be analyzed by several methods. We offer skinfold measurements and BOD POD body composition analysis. Body Composition Tests Available
Cholesterol/Glucose testing
We use a finger prick cholesterol measuring method. There are three benefits to measuring cholesterol this way. First, no needles! Second, you receive the results before you leave. Third, you will also get your fasting glucose level - a good indicator of diabetes risk. The whole process takes about 5-minutes. Our machines are certified to be as accurate as laboratory testing! Results include total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, TC/HDL ratio, triglycerides and glucose. ($40 community, $30 University)
Fitness Program Development
This service includes a 60-minute consultation/training session with a PEAK staff member and a one-month fitness program. The program can either focus on strength/endurance building or aerobic fitness development. ($60 community, $50 University)

Health Links from Nutritionist
I met with the University nutritionist. For the most part she was completely uninformed and unhelpful, but she did send me some good links that I'll pass along. I really liked mapmyrun. It turns out that the track around liberty park is 1.3 miles.

My Thought Coach, Welcome Jaime, and Dancing
Hey Fabuloussies,
1) I wanted to tell you all about something fabulous. I recently discovered My Thought Coach on ITunes. The podcasts contain affirmations and guided meditations by Stin Hansen. They have been hugely helpful in maintaining my energy level and motivation. Some of my favorites are Think Like The Owner Of A Strong Body and Think Like A Healthy and Moderate Eater. I also listen to the relaxation meditations while in bed. They have really helped me reach my goal of sleeping at least 8 hours a night. I would love to burn each of you a CD. Please let me know if you are interested and, if so, what type of themes you are interested in. (For example, I thought of Linsey when I saw meditations about financial organization and career success. I thought of Jaime when I saw meditations about being assertive and setting boundaries.) For more information on Stin Hansen visit http://www.mythoughtcoach.com/ or you can download a few free podcasts on Itunes.
2) Welcome Jaime. Thanks for sending your action items for the year. Between now and our next meeting you'll want to brainstorm 4 or 5 small steps that you can take right now to reach your goals. Speaking of next meeting, is there anyway that we could meet on the 26th or 27th instead of the 24th? Tara, if you don't want to drive down then you could conference in online. Or we could drive up to Layton. I don't mind doing that.
3). How are you guys doing on your goals? I kept a log of my vegetable intake and was shocked to discover that I only ate 12 servings last week. And that was with me really working on it! I bought a six pack of v8. Hopefully that will help me to do better this week. I'm excited for girl's night. Do you guys want to meet at my house on Saturday at about 7? We can pre-party for a bit then Keith will drive us wherever. I'm thinking either Habits or Port O' Call. I'm up for anything though. (Wish you could be there, James.)
GO US!!

In the beginning there was The Beginning
Hey,
So I had an idea yesterday. I was driving in my car, listening to a health podcast, and they were talking about how hard it is on your body to turn 30. It doesn't happen over night of course but in general it is a lot harder to lose weight and be in shape during your 30s then it is during your 20s. I realized that if this is my "last best year", as Kaj would say, then I want to go out with a bang. More importantly I want toturn 30 feeling more healthy and vibrant than ever before. Therefore, I'm going to start the FABULOUS BEFORE THIRTY club. It isn't really a club per say. More a system of checks and balances with a dose of moral support so that all of us 29 years olds keep up with our goals. Linseyhas already committed to being the second member of the group. (She turns 30 on March 8th). Do you want to join us?
