Seriously Girls. I need to get my ass in shape.

So I'll be thirty in 41 days and I feel like I'm in worse shape than I was 6 months ago. The india trip then the holidays really threw me off track. Time to get back on the wagon! Figured now would be a good time to review my goals and see where I go from here.

How are you guys doing with your goals?

Cultivate my personal style by wearing clothes, makeup, and hairstyles that make me feel sexy and alive

What I've done: Well I dropped $100 on new make-up from Bare Minerals and I have to say that I like the results. My hair on the other hand looks very dull and blah.

What I will do: Get a hot new hair cut and highlights.

Decide on long-term contraceptive

What I've done: IUD is currently implanted

What I will do: Nothing.

Eat a healthy, natural diet

What I've done: Well there for a minute I was keeping a log of my fruit and vegetable intake and it made a huge difference. It is hard to get to 7-9 servings!

What I will do: I'm going to work on preparing veggie-filled lunches in advance. My new cookbooks will help me do this. My goal is to prepare one new dish every week.

Educate myself about vitamin and mineral supplements

What I've done: There for a minute I was doing a great job with the vitamins. Not so much anymore.

What I will do: Buy women's once a day vitamins and take them EVERY day.

Explore natural remedies for anxiety and depression - go off Lexapro after 4 months of natural contraception

What I've done: Well I was all set to go of the SSRI (even had an appointment with the shrink) but then my parent's announced their divorce and I realized it wouldn't be a good time.

What I will do: I'm already tapering off of lexapro. I feel fine. Now is a good time because Kali is such a joyful distraction.

Lead an active life through yoga, strength training, walking, and playing tennis

What I've done: I took several sessions of tennis and bought an elliptical machine

What I will do: I'm going to sign up for pilates during lunch with Barb on Mons and Weds and tennis lessons every Saturday.

Learn to meditate and incorporate it into my every day life

What I've done: There for a while I was keeping a daily log. Like every thing else, I fell off the wagon.

What I will do: Get back into it by keeping a daily log again. My goal is minimum 4 times a week. I'm also going to learn how to use my prayer wheel.

Read and listen to positive affirmations

What I've done: Stin Hansen

What I will do: Stin Hansen and other spiritual texts

Receive an annual check-up including blood work, energy testing, and vitamin testing

What I've done: Fitness test, dermatologist, eye doctor, therapy, gyno

What I will do: I think that I completed this goal.

Research LASIK eye treatment

What I've done: Discovered I'm not a good candidate

Sleep 8 to 10 hours a week

What I've done: I'm sleeping well. Listening to podcasts helps.

Spend time in nature by gardening, hiking, bird watching, and taking walks around Red Butte Gardens

What I've done: Got Red Butte membership, hiked dog lake twice, received a new bird feeder, visited Tracy Aviary, walked Kali around the neighborhood

What I will do: Walk Kali as much as possible

Action Items In Review

  1. Walk Kali as much as possible
  2. Keep meditation log and ensure that I sit at least 4 times per week. Learn more about prayer wheel
  3. Sign up for pilates and tennis
  4. Buy once a day vitamin and TAKE THEM
  5. Prepare one new menu item a week
  6. Get hot haircut with highlights

Four Months left - Time to hit it hard!

Hey Fabbies,

I need some advice on what to do next.  I have four months until my 30th birthday and I really want to go out in a blaze of glory.  I've been soooo lazy this past month.  Normally I post my goals within 24 hours of our meetings but it has taken until now for me to even think about it.

What would be a truely fabulous fitness goal to work towards?  I bought an elliptical machine so I thought about training for a 5k (probably a wimpy goal for somebody like Lesha, but I've tried to do a 5k on several occastions and never succeeded). The only problem is that I doubt that there are very many (if any) Fun Runs in February.

Do you guys have any other ideas?  Should I just work on doing x amount of exercise x times a week?  I guess that I could train for a 5k then just go out and do it myself.  That doesn't sound very fun though.

Also, I read a magazine article about www.stickk.com.  I'm not sure if I necessarily need to register with them since I already have you guys as a support team, BUT I do love their fabulous idea of "sponsoring" yourself.  You can put a certain amount of money on the line and if you succeed at your goal then it can go towards something really positive (like, say, sponsoring a girl's education in Ethiopia) or something really horrible (like the NRA).  I think that if I put some money down and knew that it would be sent to the NRA if I didn't succeed then I'd be SUPER motivated.  Plus I love the idea of working towards something that will not only benefit myself but my community as well.  Thoughts?

Abbie's October Goals

  • One group meditation
  • Cook one new recipe every week
  • Take vitamins
  • Buy elliptical machine
  • visit dermatologist
  • exericese 5 hours a week
  • research knitting classes
  • Find exercise log for Iphone
  • Research Stickk.com

Abbie Recommends Dream Dinners

I checked out Dream Dinners last month. Two Thumbs Up! Much better food than My Girlfriend's Kitchen. Definitely suitable for a more sophisticated palet. (And we all know what a connoisseur I am. :)) Worth the extra couple bucks.

Abbie Recommends Meetup.Com

In my quest to find a meditation group I came across the website Meetup.com. I'm excited to meditate with a Salt Lake City group every Monday at 7:30 p.m. I might also join a wine tasting group. I highly recommend checking out the site. They have something for everybody.
